Welcome! If this is your first time visiting us, please read this section before signing up for a walk in the links below. Our pack walk group is perfect for anyone who enjoys experiencing nature in the company of dogs, meeting new people, and getting a bit of exercise. *For men, women, families, dogs (no dog needed to join in the fun). Each month we will explore a new park in/around Richmond. Best of all, our walks are free!
About the Walk and Things to Consider
-We usually walk for about 45-60 minutes and return to the cars for people who like a shorter walk. This break also allows the pups to get some water and us, too. We usually then extend the walk for those who want to keep walking for another 30 minutes, for a total of 90 minutes.
- Sturdy shoes/sneakers are recommended. Hiking shoes are not necessary. Dress appropriately. Layers are good for chillier temperatures. Bring sunscreen in the warmer months.
- Rules for walking: NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES and please have your pup(s) current on their shots. Many of our pups even have their flu shots. Be sure to bring some doggie waste bags for clean-up. So far our group walks have been really nice, with lots of well-behaved dogs with good energy, who walk together nicely. We have people and dogs who walk at every pace so you may be up front or in the back but there will always be someone there with you usually. If you are in the back and need to stop, let someone know so we can slow down and wait for you.
- Bring water for you and your pup.
-If this is your first walk, feel free to hang at the back of the pack if you're not sure how your dog will do. Most dogs fall right in line once they see the other, more experienced pack members start to walk. Take cues from your dog as to where in the pack it feels most comfortable. Timid/shy dogs tend to do well with our group. Our pup Gracie is wonderful proof of that.
⚠️If your dog is aggressive towards people or reactive/aggressive towards dogs, this is not the group for you. We take the safety of our human and canine friends very seriously, and we depend on people knowing their pet's personality and disposition. As with any group, we ask that our members be considerate of the safety of others so an enjoyable time can be had by all who attend.
*Not all walks will be stroller-friendly.
When and Where: Location will change but we usually meet on a Saturday morning. In the colder months we start at 9:30 or 10 am, and in the warmer months (April-September) we start at 9:00 am so the pups and their humans don't get overheated. Also during the warmer months, we will post weekday sunset walks, if possible. Hope you'll join us sometime.
